The Hive is 'Creating the buzz'
Although 'The Hive' - Worcester Library and History Centre is not due to open to the public until July, it is already 'Creating a buzz' with the RIBA Journal.
Journalist Eleanor Young writes that the 'dignity and calm (of The Hive's interior) is done with the most natural and humane of materials: timber and daylight. Verticals of timber line the main atrium, breaking up sound with acoustic absorption behind. But most significantly the funnels are fabricated (and self finished internally) in engineered timber supplied and installed in huge panels (up to 16.5m) by KLH. Their presence permeates the whole building through the two artiua and views up through staircases even from the lower ground floor. And in the top attic space the sloping timber roofscape define the silent reading room.'
