Chiswick Leisure Centre

The Chiswick Leisure Centre is one of three swimming pools and leisure centres being refurbished and extended by Pringle Richard Sharratt Architects.

The Chiswick Leisure Centre project has been extremely challenging as a fundamental refurbishment and significant extension of the building was required to expand the leisure facilities.  The new facilities will include gyms, changing rooms, health suites, community rooms, creche and soft play facilities.  The existing leisure centre has remained open during the period of works.

KLH UK supplied the cross-laminated timber for the new build and our specialised teams have erected the structure on site.

Carbon Calculation

  • KLH cross-laminated timber volume for Chiswick Leisure Centre is 153m3
  • KLH panels removed approximately 122.4 tonnes of CO2 removed from the atmosphere
  • 6.8 tonnes of emitted CO2 from transporting the panels from Austria to Chiswick
  • Offsetting the CO2 emissions from the transport therefore shows a 'nett gain' of 115.6 tonnes (CO2 removed from the atmosphere)

Ultimately, the timber superstructure for the Chiswick Leisure Centre is 36.7 tonnes of sequestered/stored carbon.
