Kingsdale School

The Music & Sports Buildings complete the extensive masterplan for the redevelopment of Kingsdale School.

The challenge for the Sports Hall was to transform a generic low-budget box into daylit and expressive architecture. A large simple interior volume offers maximum flexibility for different user-groups. For acoustic reverberation, the Music School has angular form, with special windows for soundproofing qualities. At the same time the building exterior creates a sympathetic addition to the streetscape.

Carbon Calculation

  • KLH cross-laminated timber for the Kingsdale School is 847.6m3
  • KLH panels removed approximately 678.1 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere
  • 37.9 tonnes of emitted CO2 from transporting the KLH panels from Austria to London
  • Offsetting the CO2 emissions from the transport therefore shows a 'nett gain' of 640.2 tonnes (CO2 removed from the atmosphere)

Ultimately, the timber superstructure for Kingsdale School contains approximately 203.4 tonnes of sequestered/stored carbon.
