West London Academy

The expansion and remodelling of the West London Academy, by Architects Co-Partnership, comprises of two new buildings and the refurbishment of the existing facilities to accommodate 210 primary age pupils.

The project will also provide the secondary school with additional state-of-the-art teaching spaces supporting the Academy's specialisms of Sports and Enterprise.

The early years unit 'The Arc' will house a new 52 place nursery, reception and Year One Key Stage 1 classrooms, increasing the primary element of the all-through Academy to three forms of entry.

A new Design and Technology Department, Art Department, ICT and media suite will be housed within a purpose built extension, named 'The Quad'.

To enhance the out-of-hours community use of the Academy, 'The Quad' has been designed with a separate entrance, which provides a more welcoming environment for the public and enhanced pedestrian access routes.

Carbon Calculation

  • KLH cross-laminated timber volume for West London Academy is 910m3
  • KLH panels removed approximately 728 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere
  • 34.2 tonnes of emitted CO2 from transporting the KLH panels from Austria to London
  • Offsetting the CO2 emissions from the transport therefore shows a 'nett gain' of 693.8 tonnes (CO2 removed from the atmosphere)

Ultimately, the timber superstructure for West London Academy contains approximately 218.4 tonnes of sequestered/stored carbon.
