Passivhaus, Haus am Mulhweg

The Muhlweg Residential Development was built according to passive house guidelines.  The development on the former agricultural parcels has an open structure comprising of four buildings.

The compact four-storey multi-family houses with attic floors are part of a large timber housing estate that is located close to the popular recreation area along the Marchfeld Canal.  The arrangement is succinct. While three of the houses are arranged parallel, the fourth one has been rotated by ninety degrees. That way, the middle zone, which hosts a playground, is slightly more open to the south.

Four apartments encircle the internal staircase on each of the main floors. Two apartments share the recessed attic floor. It provides the luxury of roof terraces on all sides.

Unlike other timber constructions, which are separated by mullions, these buildings have been constructed using solid cross-laminated plates and slabs, which constitute the support structure around the reinforced concrete staircase. The main advantage is the quick assembly thanks to the prefabricated constructive parts.
