52 Whitmore Road

Designed by Waugh Thistleton Architects, 52 Whitmore Road is a 6 storey mixed use development on the south bank of the Regent's Canal in Hackney.

The site, which formerly housed a warehouse, will comprise of offices funded by the Shoreditch Trust, a double height photographer's studio and three duplex apartments with roof terraces.

The KLH cross-laminated timber superstructure was completed in 5 weeks and the building will be completed and ready for occupation in the summer of 2012.

Carbon Calculation

  • KLH cross-laminated timber volume for 52 Whitmore Road is 499m3
  • KLH panels removed approximately 399.2 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere
  • 18.2m3 tonnes of emitted CO2 from transporting the KLH panels from Austria to London
  • Offsetting the CO2 emissions from the transport therefore shows a "nett gain" of 381 tonnes (CO2 removed from the atmosphere)

Ultimately, the timber superstructure for 52 Whitmore Road contains approximately 119.8 tonnes of sequestered/stored carbon.
