Graveney School
Observatory block
The Observatory Block at Graveney School has become a WINNER of the New London Awards 2020 Learning Category.
Working alongside Urban Projects Bureau, the CLT design was finalised in late 2018 in readiness for a January 2019 start. The 2,000m2 / 250m3 of CLT was delivered in 6 deliveries and erected over a 5 week period.
Graveney School has circa 2,000m2 of exposed CLT surfaces.
The School worked in collaboration with the Architects to select materials with sustainability in mind and were delighted to be able to work with a CLT structure. Not only has this provided storage of 68t of carbon but also provides a beautiful space and a calming environment. The school’s Headteacher describe the process as a pleasure and instils a sense of pride among the students providing them with a peaceful environment in which to learn.
